November – A Big Month for Local and Global Outreach
I have always loved the month of November because Fall is in full swing, with the morning air becoming cool and crisp, and the leaves changing from greens to yellows, oranges and browns. Of course, the anticipation of a delicious Thanksgiving meal with family and friends also lures me into a very good place!
This November at HRC fills me with anticipation about the following local and global outreaches, which I encourage you to participate in:
"Operation Christmas Child": This is a HighRidge tradition when we partner with Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse to provide shoeboxes of goodies and the plan of salvation for children in Third World Countries. It is a wonderful way to evangelize and bless "the least of these." Please see the display table in the Grand Lobby for specific information on how to assemble your box. Last year our church provided 135 boxes and we hope to provide even more this year! For any questions, you may contact Rebekah Griffiths at rebekah@highridgechurch.com).
"The Parade of Lights": On Friday, November 27th, the annual "Parade of Lights" will be presented in downtown Fort Worth featuring over 100 entries, a special Holiday Fun Zone presented by XTO Energy, and the lighting of the Fort Worth Christmas Tree in Sundance Square. Downtown comes alive with floats, lights and lots of smiles. This is the first year HighRidge has entered a float, so this is going to be an exciting opportunity for us to let the greater Fort Worth area know that we are here to "strengthen people for life!"! There is a planning meeting on Saturday, November 7, from 6:00-7:30 PM in the Gate. For more information, you may contact Pastor Levi (levi@highridgechurch.com).
"Guatemala 2010": This is a mission trip scheduled for June 13-20, 2010 , and is our first time to partner with Gateway Church in Southlake, which we are very excited about. The agenda involves training children's ministry leaders and possibly assisting a medical team. Right now the cost is approximately $1700.00 per person from DFW. Gateway has given us 12 spots, so it will be first-come first-served !!! This month we will have a meeting to help you get started planning for this life-changing trip! "Mexico 2010": is a week-long, Sunday to Saturday mission trip in July. The specific dates have yet to be set. We will partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a deserving family. A side trip to a local orphanage is also being planned. The cost will be around 800.00 per person. For questions or more information you may contact Rebekah Griffiths (rebekah@highridgechurch.com).
